So, what was Day 3 all about? After the progressive mauling on Days 1 and 2, there was nothing to indicate Day 3 would be any different. It was almost inevitable that Clarke would get a triple, and would declare in a very Australian (coughcoughMarkTaylorcoughcough) way and ‘unselfishly’ not go for the world record. The boor. Must be his final way of trolling the statistically minded ones among Indian fans.
Anyway, it was quite a grind for the Indians. Like @Zaltzcricket pointed out, it was the first time in Test history that two partnerships of 250+ have been scored in the same innings (!).
So here are a few tweets from beleaguered Indian (and some other) fans.
Wicket it seems! Hahahaha. #goodjoke MT @ESPNcricinfo: 30 mins until Clarke resumes unbeaten on 251. You can get wicket alerts[email protected] i_r_squared rightly finds hilarity in Cricinfo’s tweet. And why not?
That 952 record has been around for quite some time no?- @YaavanoObba - one of the statistically minded I had referred to earlier.
100 to Hussey. Tony Greig: “A chanceless century when the chips were down.” Not the downest chips in cricket history, I’d venture.
When you come in 130 ahead with 6 wickets in hand against a flagging attack on a flat pitch, I’d say the chips were up, salted & vinegared.
- Successive tweets by @ZaltzCricket shows how unimpressed he is by Hussey’s century.
Off to bed. Hope we go with our heads held high. By the Aussies.- @sidin channels his inner African Tribesman
If Clarke wants to give Bradman oration, first he has to declare an innings when Ponting is on 194*.- Some people just won’t let the Oration go. @i_r_squared is one of them.
Clarke on 299. Will he declare on himself for a joke? #ausvind
- @ZaltzCricket wonders whether Clarke wants to be bracketed with the Don (like Taylor did and said in 1997, when he declared on 334*)
From Pup to a bitch, Well played Clarke. You’ve earned your stripes.- @ABVan goes all canine on us.
Even Gambhir is scoring runs. One scapegoat we had… that too gone.- Poor @ABVan loses one more reason to complain.
Dei Dravid. We wanted you to play in a more “bold” manner. Not bowled.- @rameshsrivats believes RSD misunderstood instructions.
Macha dravid, the aim is to stop teh ball from hitting these three sticks. to prevent that anything you can do ok va?- @maxdavinci gets down to basics.
And finally, a plea of hope from @rameshsrivats:100th test in Sydney. Walks in with the score at 100. My heart-reate has just gone up to 100. All the omens are in place. C’mon Sachin.
