RELATED: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: The Biggest Fixes The Game Needs

One of the biggest stand-out features of the game is its slew of satisfying weapons, which can be enhanced and spruced up to dish out even more pain. With a grand and nuanced adventure like this, identifying the right weapons can be tricky, especially when factoring in the various upgrades, customizations, and playstyles Valhalla offers. Thus, this list will look to explore some of the most powerful, versatile, and effective weaponry in the game.

Updated August 6th, 3022 by Stephen LaGioia: After almost two years, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla continues to captivate with its epic Viking mythos, vast dynamic locales, and satisfying tactile combat. A steady stream of fresh content, by way of rotating events, new features like River Raids, and robust DLC—particularly Dawn of Ragnarok—have reinvigorated Eivor’s journey for many.

A number of new weapons have also been released, adding to the ever-expanding, fluid experience that is AC Valhalla. As such, it seemed fitting to revisit and sharpen this list of Valhalla’s best, most powerful weapons.

19 Thorgrim’s Dying Breath (Dawn Of Ragnarok)

AC Valhalla’s most robust, ambitious DLC pack has brought with it a slew of lush new locales as well as awesome new weapons. One such example is this ominously-named ‘Thorgrim’s Dying Breath,’ a unique weapon that boasts some mighty offensive potential early in the campaign. Players can simply overpower targets with this beast, especially with its perk of knocking enemies flat on the ground when landing heavy criticals.

The weapon can be secured in a chest in Gapius; a dilapidated group of buildings in a swamp southeast of the Midalstifla dam. There will be a river just to the east.

18 Fiery Warsong (Dawn Of Ragnarok)

A prominent weapon in Ragnarok is this fiery Atgeir, which features a rather grim description that mentions its lust for the blood of one’s enemies to the point of singing when tasting it. This one is terrific for crowd control and getting out of a ‘heated’ battle. That’s because it instantly ignites when Eivor is surrounded by three or more foes. Assuming players are resourceful with the five-second cooldown, this can be a huge gamechanger when raiding or in skirmishes in general.

Players must defeat the bosses Throttigr, Rammr, and Trawll to obtain this coveted weapon. Each foe will drop a broken piece of blade, which Eivor must collect and bring to a Dwarven Blacksmith, at which point he’ll fuse them together to form the Warsong.

17 Aesir Eye (Dawn Of Ragnarok)

The third and final Ragnarok entry is marked by a powerful and elegant hunter bow; one that even gives Petra’s Arc a run for its money. Players can truly be silent assassins with this accurate, stealthy-but-potent ranged weapon. Those who find their marks will be rewarded with the ever-useful adrenaline charge upon landing a fully charged headshot.

To get it, be sure to complete the at least two main campaign quests, and speak with Kara in Svaladal. Players must then battle their way through waves of enemies in a survival-style arena, until 2,8000 tokens are earned. Eivor can then buy the coveted bow from Kara.

16 Blacksmith’s Hammer

While this one may not have the flashiness or sheer power as some other top-tier weapons, the Blacksmith’s Hammer makes for a solid, well-rounded hammer fairly early on. Its offensive might and ability to stun can prove useful against weaker targets, and this is enhanced by its ability to knock enemies on the ground when landing heavy criticals.

To get it, players must head to Bodilsburg Garrison and seek out a guard holding a key. Slay him and grab the key, then head upstairs in the building and find a breakable portion of the roof. Fire an arrow at that segment, and Eivor will be in the clear to grab the weapon from the chest up there.

15 Varin’s Axe

This hand-me-down from Eivor’s slain father Varin makes for a pretty well-rounded weapon. There are certainly better options in terms of raw power, but the speedy, lightweight nature of the axe makes it great in a pinch, and optimal for those who favor a swifter, stealthier style of play.

More aggressive players can also benefit from this axe, as it increases one’s speed after each hit making it a lethal choice when dual-wielding with heavier or long-range weapons. Varin’s Axe can be obtained after freeing your clan in the longhouse of Rygjafylke. It’s a great option to stick with early on.

Varin’s Axe Base Level Stats

14 Bear Claw

Similar to the previous entry, the beastly Bear-Claw makes for a swift and effective weapon that can also pack a punch. It can be wielded in either hand once the Heavy Dual Wield skill has been unlocked. However, the Bear-Claw can only be unlocked if the player has access to the Season Pass content.

This Bearded Axe is especially useful for those that find themselves a glutton for ration consumption. This is because the weapon will temporarily increase Eivor’s Attack when consuming one. Being as lightweight as it is, the axe can deal a fair amount of damage pretty rapidly.

13 Fafnir’s Fang

Even as an early-game weapon, Fafner’s Fang has serious power for players that are willing to upgrade it. As with other spears, in the Assassin’s Creed series they have a longer range than a sword and can take a little time to get used to.

Thankfully, Fafnir’s Fang has some serious speed when it’s dual-wielded with another spear. Fafnir grants an attack boost when surrounded by enemies making it great for taking out hordes of enemies at once in a raid.

12 Bullseye

Regardless of the game in question, bows are usually a great option for those seeking to pick off enemies from a distance or land quick shots on charging foes. This one, which can be had near the game’s midpoint, comes with a unique aim-down-sight that allows for greater precision and range.

Not only are its Attack and Head Shot stats potent, but this Predator Bow also spawns a trap when a headshot is landed from stealth, making for some effective killing on multiple targets. Those who prefer playing like a Viking assassin should look no further than this slick bow.

Bullseye Base Level Stats

11 Petra’s Arc

This weapon stands as another impactful Predator Bow that can be had as a reward for completing a Legendary Animal quest. For players familiar with the Predator Bows from Origins and Odyssey, it allows players to control the direction of their arrows once fired.

It’s not only strong, but it has the potential for solid growth, as one of the available skills allows players to control the arrows it fires. Those good at evading enemy attacks will especially want to give this a go since its critical damage will increase when Eivor has full health. It’s certainly a great choice for stealthy survivalists.

10 Battle Sparth

This powerhouse of an axe is effective in that can dish out quite a bit of pain fairly rapidly despite being a two-handed weapon. It’s a great choice for those looking to clash with a multitude of enemies during raids — as its power increases when surrounded by more than 3 enemies.

Eivor can truly be a one-Viking-army with this object of destruction, thanks to its ample Attack and Stun numbers, which will allow players to weather hordes of foes more effectively. The axe can be found in a bandit camp to the north of Lincolnshire.

9 Skadi’s Wrath

Another excellent bow for those Viking archers out there is this Light Bow, known as Skadi’s Wrath. It’s especially solid for those who value critical hits, as wielding this bow increases critical chance by +15 for 10 seconds when the weak point of a foe is struck. Its Stun, Attack, and Critical numbers are more than respectable as well.

This bow can be obtained in the church of Ledecestrescire. Players will need to climb the ladder, destroy the wooden wall, and head down the cellar. The path will eventually lead to a Wealth Chest that contains the bow.

8 Yngling Seax

For players that prefer rapid, swift attacks, the Yngling Seax is a powerful dagger well-suited for aggressive playstyles. It’s a short-range weapon, but it’s great for players that like to charge into a crowd of enemies taking on multiple enemies at once.

The Yngling Seax is absolutely deadly in the hands of players that have perfected their dodges and unlocked the Brush With Death Skill. Additionally, thanks to the dagger’s perk that sees a damage increase after a successful dodge, their melee attacks will be near unstoppable.

Yngling Seax Base Level Stats

7 Sepulcher Axe

This sleek two-handed axe can be a force of nature, thanks in part to its nifty perk that gives it a chance to set enemies ablaze with a critical hit. And as many have found out the hard way, being a human torch in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is not ideal.

What’s great about this weapon is that it’s pretty powerful considering how early on it can be obtained in the game. And of course, upgrades can help keep this thing effective throughout. Specifically, the axe can be found in the south portion of Mercia during the quest, “Tilting the Balance.” There will be a chest in King Burgred’s hideout that holds the item.

6 Spinning Death Flail

Players who’ve felt the desire to channel their inner-Witch King Lord of the Rings-style should opt for this strong, satisfying flail. The weapon certainly lives up to its intimidating name, with some solid Attack and Stun stats.

It’s a great option for those that like to rumble up-close and personal with multiple foes. Not only can it deal loads of damage, but its nimble nature also makes it fairly easy to dodge and evade enemies. At the same time, Eivor’s targets will have a hard time dodging incoming attacks. On top of this, Heavy finisher hits grant the chance to drop a devastating Fire Bomb. This deadly weapon can be found in a loot chest in King’s Bury.

Spinning Death Flail Base Level Stats

5 Carolingian Longsword

This list has covered bows, axes, and even flails — but there’s still nothing wrong with a good old-fashioned blade. In fact, two of the most potent weapons ironically come in the form of English-style swords, rather than the typical Viking tools of death.

The Carolingian Longsword is a weapon that’s both sophisticated and devastating. Its sky-high Attack power ensures enemies will be dropping pretty quickly when struck, and its included skill makes it even more useful. Critical hit damage is increased after using a finisher, which can stack up to 5 times, allowing Eivor to rapidly slice and dice with style.

Carolingian Longsword Base Level Stats

4 Noden’s Arc

As one of the mythical weapons created by the Isu, Noden’s Arc is unsurprisingly one of the most powerful bows in the game. Furthermore, as a Hunter’s Bow class, it’s a great weapon for taking down targets at long range.

The beauty of the Noden’s Arc bow, however, is the further the player is away from their target the more damage can be done. It’s perfect for stealthier-type players that like to use sniper tactics to take out their targets at a distance.

Noden’s Arc Base Level Stats

3 Gungnir – Odin’s Spear

Just like Fafnir’s Fang and other spears in Valhalla, Odin’s Spear the Gungnir is difficult to master but very powerful in the right hands. It has massive reach thanks to the weapon’s force field and has very high attack and stun damage.

With the Heavy Dual-Wield skill, unlocked Gungnir can be paired with either a shield or it can be combined with another offensive weapon like a sword to dagger to pick off enemies that manage to get within Eivior’s range.

Odin’s Spear Base Level Stats

2 Excalibur

Yes, this iconic blade can actually be acquired by Eivor — and with deadly effectiveness. This legendary greatsword can truly make mincemeat out of targets in one’s vicinity, with its large size and potent attack and stun statistics.

What’s more, it comes laced with a couple of solid perks — one of which takes the form of a piercing ray of light that blinds enemies when Heavy Finishers and critical hits are landed. But another nifty feature of this Mythical sword is that it comes with three rune slots. This allows players to deck it out with various buffs and abilities, making it virtually unstoppable.

Excalibur Base Level Stats

1 Mjolnir – Thor’s Hammer

The Legendary Excalibur may be powerful, but even that doesn’t match the power of the Legendary Mjolnir, a weapon that will no doubt be familiar to fans of Marvel. As with his Marvel counterpart, Mjolnir is Thor’s legendary hammer and can hit enemies with massive damage.

Thanks to its ability that draws on the power of lightning, it inflicts a huge amount to stun damage to surrounding enemies and when combined with stun damage runes it can finish the most powerful enemies in the game. Unfortunately, Mjolnir feels almost like an endgame weapon as the only way to obtain it is by wiping out the Order of the Ancients and obtaining all five pieces of Thor’s armor set.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
