Considering how successful and acclaimed the show is, it wouldn’t be a surprise if another spin-off show is on the horizon. There are a handful of excellent characters in Better Call Saul that could get their own show in the future. This list will feature spoilers for Breaking Bad, El Camino, and Better Call Saul up to season 6, episode 11.

5 Nacho Varga

When the major characters of Better Call Saul were established, fans had a common question for every one of them that didn’t appear in Breaking Bad: will they survive? Unfortunately, Nacho Varga’s chances of survival never looked too great throughout the show, given his role in the cartel and close affiliation with Tuco and Hector Salamanca. Nacho’s future would only look bleaker as time went on, as he would eventually be forced to work for Gus Fring, who would make him betray the cartel and set up Lalo to be assassinated. When the assassination attempt failed, the writing was on the wall for Varga.

Some fans hoped that Nacho could somehow get out, possibly via the vacuum guy who is essentially the Breaking Bad universe’s get out of jail free card. Sadly, it didn’t happen, but Nacho certainly went out with a bang with a satisfying verbal attack on Hector. A spin-off series or film showing how Nacho joined the cartel, despite having a straight-arrow father would be interesting.

4 Howard Hamlin

Considering how action-pact and fast-paced of a show Breaking Bad was at times, particularly in the last couple of seasons, it may surprise some people that an ultra-professional, good person like Howard Hamlin would become a fan favorite character. Howard isn’t perfect in the show, particularly due to its treatment of Kim during her time at HHM and to Jimmy under Chuck’s direction, but he’s one of the few characters in the Breaking Bad universe that seems incapable of evil.

Sadly, Howard’s professionalism and good spirit didn’t prevent him from being in the wrong place at the wrong time, when Lalo happened to return to Jimmy and Kim’s apartment just as Howard talks about getting to the bottom of the truth. Howard would eventually be buried under Gus’ superlab next to Lalo, a disturbing visual that cements the pain and suffering that was needed to create the lab where Walt and Jesse would eventually work.

A spin-off with Howard would be a completely different show to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and many people would be skeptical how engaging a show about Howard’s past would be. However, the writers have consistently made the show’s legal side compelling, so a spin-off show or film could be great. Moreover, the spin-off would likely feature Chuck as a leading character, which could make for a fascinating watch.

3 Huell Babineaux

Speaking of fan-favorite characters, Huell Babineaux is one of the Breaking Bad universe’s best comic reliefs and one that most fans are always happy to see when he appears on-screen. Realistically, a fleshed-out, multiple-season drama centered around Huell isn’t happening, but a short comedy mini-series or film could be great and just what fans need after the emotional rollercoaster that has been Better Call Saul.

The fate of Huell’s character was the source of jokes and discussion at the end of Breaking Bad, as Hank tells Huell to wait for him and Steve Gomez in a safe house, except they never return as they end up buried in a desert. Worried fans can rest easy, however, as a bonus scene confirmed that Huell eventually got fed up and left, something that Francesca also confirmed in the Better Call Saul episode conveniently called Breaking Bad.

Unlike the other characters on this list, Huell is still alive, so his spin-off could be a sequel rather than a prequel.

2 Gus Fring

Considering that Gus Fring has been a leading antagonist in both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, it may seem like overkill for him to get his own spin-off too. However, there is still plenty to explore with his character, as we are yet to see exactly what Gus did in Chile that made the cartel aware of him and spare him, and why Hank asks, “is Gus Fring your real name?” as he can’t find any record of him having lived there. Granted, some stories are better left untold and up to the imagination, but the chance to see Gus’ initial rise is hard to ignore.

A spin-off focusing on Gus’ time in Chile would require a new actor to play him, which is a shame as Giancarlo Esposito has done such an amazing job as Gus. Still, people have already complained that Gus looks too old in Better Call Saul compared to Breaking Bad, so there would definitely be complaints if a 64-year-old Giancarlo tried to play an even younger Gus.

A new actor could work well, though, as the show would be set before Max Arciniega’s death, which is the event that set Gus on a journey for revenge, so he would presumably have been a very different person.

1 Mike Ehrmantraut

Like Gus, Mike has appeared heavily in both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul already, and he even had a small cameo in El Camino. However, there is still a story to tell with Mike, as we haven’t seen his time as a dirty cop in Philadelphia.

As would be the case with the aforementioned Gus spin-off, a new actor would be needed to play a younger Mike, which would be jarring for many people. Still, it would be interesting to explore the early days of Mike’s corruption and see the relationship between him and his son.
