The film was based on a Twitter thread and told the story of a Detroit stripper (Paige) who is convinced by a friend to follow her to Tampa to earn money. Paige also recently starred in the Lena Dunham film Sharp Stick, which premiered at the 2022 Sundance film festival. She is also set to appear alongside Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage in the Toxic Avenger remake. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley will be directed by Mark Molloy, who is taking over for Ms. Marvel directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who stepped away from the film in April to focus on Warner Bros.’ now-cancelled Batgirl movie.

The first Beverly Hills Cop film follows a Detroit cop named Foley who ventures to Beverly Hills to solve his friend’s murder. The first film was a huge hit and spawned two sequels, Beverly Hills Cop II in 1987 and Beverly Hills Cop III in 1994. Murphy reprised his role in bought sequels, however, neither sequel performed as well financially and critically as the original film. Actor and comedian Judge Reinhold starred alongside Murphy in all three films but has not been cast in the new film. The Beverly Hills Cop franchise was originally owned by Paramount but made the move to Netflix in 2019.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley will be released by Netflix.
