While the fact that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is some day going to make its way out of development hell is certainly worth cheering over, it’s important to note that the Ubisoft CEO didn’t state exactly when it would be shown to the public, much less when it’s release date is going to be. Regarding the game still being in production, Yves Guillemot said, “It’s still on the way. It’s something at one point you will see, yes.”
Of course, Michel Ancel is still on board. to complete the development for Beyond Good & Evil 2, but as Ubisoft’s CEO explained, Ancel is also busy with a second project, which is a sprawling, shamanistic-driven action-adventure game entitled WiLD. When prompted for information as to when Beyond Good & Evil 2 would see the light of day, Guillemot stated, “It’s difficult to say. Michel [Ancel] is working on it, but he’s doing two games at the same time, he’s doing Wild at the same time, it’s coming along, but he has to spend more time on it so we can see it faster.”
It’s been several months since we have received a development update for Beyond Good & Evil 2, and it essentially contained about the same amount of information received from Guillemot, in that developers simply confirmed that it’s going to be finished one of these days. With little to no concrete evidence to go on, though, fans are left to their own devices as to what kind of gameplay it will contain, how its story will progress from the original, and even what on what platforms it will launch.
Some gamers have speculated that Beyond Good & Evil 2 might be a Nintendo NX exclusive, and the reason why Ubisoft has yet to share any additional details beyond its existence is to keep the lid on what kind of hardware the Big N will be using with its next console. While the theory seems sound, it’s really nothing more than conjecture at this point, as we wait for more solid details related to Beyond Good & Evil 2’s contents.
