Indian teenager Yuki Bhambri was beaten in the first round of qualifying for the Wimbledon Championships, which gets underway at SW 19 next week.
Bhambri, ranked no 219 in the world, was playing in his first seniors Wimbledon draw. Playing against world no. 190 Marc Gicquel, of France, Bhambri matches his opponent for the first half of the match – holding his serve for a 4-3 lead.
But Gicquel then went on a tear – winning 9 games in a row to complete a 6-4, 6-0 win over the Indian
Gicquel has been ranked as high as no. 37 in the world a few years ago.
Bhambri also lost in the first round of the Notthingham event last week.
